Today is 'diwali'. Diwali is for the word 'Deepawali' meaning line of lamps 'दीप '. We have many mythological stories behind the reasons to celebrate it, we all know them, one very interesting one is that it was celebrated by the people in ancient Ayodhya, the capital of Lord Rama, when he returned back after exile of fourteen years, after defeating Ravana, the demon king. Apart from this there are some other stories as well, but the above mentioned story is the most famous among the people. Here we are going to discuss regarding the human thought process behind the festivities and festivals.
The most interesting and amazing organ in our body is our brain and its thought processes make it very interesting and versatile, since it is our different thought processes which control our conscious mind and intelligence. All our thought processes are the result of very complex reactions of biochemicals and neurotransmitters in our brain. Human brain and human thought processes are the result of millions of years of natural evolutionary developmental process, that put us on the top of the animal kingdom. We all have this coding in our DNA.
Our spiritual thought process is the very developed and complex thought process with its characteristics of controlling and exploring (What generally we call exploring the truth in religious and philosophic discussions). In fact, scientific and religious thought processes evolved from the spiritual thought process. We can say the thought process of humanity and human values is either very near to the spiritual thought process or it is direct result of spiritual thought process.
Festivals are the result of our spiritual thought process, it connects us us with our spiritual 'Self'. Festivals are integral part of our cultures and religious beliefs. During festival season, our spiritual thought process get boost from our subconscious mind, which have many information based on our religious and cultural beliefs, all of them have positive effect on our different other thought processes, which finally reflects in positive effects on our physical and mental health. Again it is a big play of different biochemicals in our brain and body.
Deepawali has all this effect. But what I am really bothered about this time at 9 PM in the good festive mood, is the noise which is continuously increasing of crackers and pollution because of fireworks. I remember last year I had a number of patients in emergency of our hospital with breathing problems apart from burn injuries. This year I am not having any emergency duty or on call emergency duty on Diwali, but being a doctor I can imagine the difficulties of patients and their relatives.
Our spiritual thought process and spirituality is a positive thought process, it helps in controlling all our negative thought processes. All the positive thought processes of humanity, human values and protection of life on earth are because of our spiritual thought process. Our fight against environmental pollution is due to our spiritual thought process only. Our cities are literally choking. Do we really have some alternatives? I believe in our human spiritual thought process and its smartness, later or sooner it will find some ways to make our Deepawali celebrations more safe and environmental friendly. I believe in the thought process of humanity, human values and human intelligence.
Happy Deepawali to all of you. Celebrate it in a more environment friendly manner.
