Our brain is a fantastic organ in our body. Through the process of development, it has
developed in the present form. It took millions and millions of years in this
process of evolution and development to make us human beings where it put us
apart from other animals, and make us unique in the whole animal kingdom, where
we have acquired the enormous power to influence and alter the nature.
In this process, the unique thought process of our
brain is the driving force behind our actions and behavior at the individual level, at the community level, at our country level, at the global level and finally at the universal
level. Our thought processes make the basic building blocks of our comprehensive
thought process which we call humanity and human values.
At some
point in time,
we start asking a question to ourselves about our existence, about our ‘self,' about the purpose of our life, about our
universe and its beginning and end, about death, what happens after death, etc. These
questions arise from so many other problems of nature, life, and energy.
These issues are the part of all the primary human thought process, but the answer to these issues
is complicated,
it is not straight like so many other scientific questions. The complexity of these matters is because it challenges our existence beyond our physical
body. It defies all the conventional
answers of existence and future of life
on our earth or in that mater in-universe.
These questions are touching the existence
of our body, our soul, life, our beliefs, our theories, our society, our human
values, our collective human consciousness and our collective human
intelligence. In short, these questions make us a little uncomfortable and
uneasy resulting in our innumerable ways
to explain and attain them.
In due
course of our evolution of thoughts we developed human thoughts, and finally,
spiritual thought process and spirituality came
into the picture. Biologically
there is nothing new about the spiritual
thought process, it is same biochemical reactions and same as other thought
processes in our brain, but it can affect
all other thought processes including cognitive thinking. Characteristically it
is very sophisticated, improved and refined process, which starts with such
challenging questions like “Who am I?” In simple words, what we started
thinking about such issues, that thought process may be called as
spiritual thought process and spirituality. We will discuss this essential human thought process in following
chapters of this book.
