'Spiritual Thought Process' and 'Spirituality' is difficult to
define. The definition will depend on our other thought processes of
religion, culture, philosophy, and science. Apart from these common
traits many personal traits which primarily based on our genetic makeup
and they have direct effects on our thought processes will play their
role in shaping our definition of Spirituality. So, we can say that we
have our own Spiritual Thought Process to define Spirituality which
depends on various cultural, religious, social, and personal
determinants and makes it complicated. We can simplify the complexity by
understanding the evolution of human brain and its different thought
processes and development of humanity and human values which happened
because of changes in the codes of our DNA as a result of millions of
years of evolutionary mechanism.
If we look into the simple development of our thought processes in our life, we can easily understand that how our thought processes changed from simple thoughts of childhood to complex thoughts of adulthood. Our brain typically follows its evolutionary journey of millions of years in just nine months of our fetal life from a bunch of cells called neural plate to a fully developed human brain. It starts its journey from the simplicity of invertebrates' brain to vertebrates' brain to the complexity of the human brain. The biological evolution has been from the simplicity to complexity, the simple life forms evolved into the complex life forms. Similarly, our thought processes also evolved from simple animal thought processes of food, sex, shelter to the complex social, cultural, scientific, and philosophic thoughts to the complex thoughts of spirituality.
We can define spiritual thought processes in simple terms of humanity and human values. We all human beings have this thought process of humanity and human values in our mind since it is unique to the human species in the whole animal kingdom and it makes us human, it makes the foundation of our all other thought processes in religions, cultures, science, and philosophy. The evolution of the thought process of humanity and human values is the reflection of the evolution of the spirituality and spiritual thought processes or vice-versa. These highly evolved thought processes of the human brain have all the activities of controlling and correcting factors in the whole ecosystem of human thought processes in different areas of human existence as social and civilized species in the animal kingdom.
In our all different thought processes, we always have positive thoughts about humanity and human values. For example, love is the central teaching of all the religions. But once it turns into an idea of love for the people of our faith only, then this positive thought may turn into hatred for the people of other religions or belief. It is against the basic concept of humanity and human values which says love for all human beings of all faiths, religions, creeds, nationalities, and cultures across the globe. So, the thoughts of humanity and human values create corrective mechanisms and communication channels across the complex matrix of all human thought processes. Therefore, all the positive thoughts among all the thought processes in our mind are to nurture the thoughts of humanity; it is for improvement of the human race at personal, community, national, international, and global levels in health, well-being, peace, and happiness.
